Vivian S. Lee, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A. joined Verily Life Sciences, an Alphabet company, as President, Health Platforms in May 2018. Formerly, she was Dean, SVP and CEO University of Utah Health, a $3.5B integrated health system, academic campus, and health plan that was recognized for its health care innovations that enabled higher quality at lower costs (JAMA & editorial, NYT) and with higher patient satisfaction (NYT, HBR, NEJM), as well as successful advances in precision/genomic medicine, medical innovation, and faculty development. In 2016, University of Utah Health was ranked first among university hospitals in quality and safety and has been among the top 10 for eight years consecutively (Vizient).
Dr. Lee is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard, received a D.Phil in medical engineering from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, earned her M.D. with honors from Harvard Medical School, and was valedictorian of her EMBA program at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Elected to the National Academy of Medicine, and with ~200 scientific publications, Lee is an MR radiologist whose lab developed novel methods for measuring kidney function and vascular disease with MRI. A nationally recognized health leader (NYT Corner Office, STAT), Lee is a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She serves on the Defense Health Board of the DoD, the Journal Oversight Committee for JAMA, and on the Scientific Advisory Boards for Massachusetts General Hospital and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is also a director on the board of Zions Bancorporation, a publicly traded company, and also serves on the board of the American Association of Rhodes Scholars and the Commonwealth Fund.
