Sumit Mukherjee is a Managing Director and Head of Healthcare in Equity Capital Markets for BofA Securities, Global Capital Markets Division, based in New York.
Sumit has been with Bank of America / Merrill Lynch for over 21 years and has spent that last 17 years within Equity Capital Markets (ECM). In his current role, Sumit is responsible for advising the firm’s corporate, sponsor and venture capital clients across all Healthcare sub-verticals, including Life Sciences, Medical Devices, Tools and Diagnostics, and Healthcare Services, inclusive of Digital Health. He works closely with our partners in Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) to help our firm guide clients across all of their equity capital needs, inclusive on raising private, public capital or entering the public markets via SPAC. His primary responsibilities include managing the IPO process from pitch through pricing, helping public companies raise capital to fund growth or capital structure management, as well as help strategic or sponsor/venture clients monetize positions they own within healthcare. Prior to running Healthcare, Sumit held a similar position advising Industrial, Transportation and Infrastructure clients for one year, and prior to that, he was responsible for leading the firm’s Equity Syndicate desk for 6 years, which drove the marketing, execution, pricing and allocations of BofA Merrill Lynch’s issuance calendar to corporate and sponsor clients. In that role, he was also responsible for jointly managing the Corporate and Sponsor Equity Block (Risk) Trade business for the firm, which was run as a joint venture with Equities. He held that position from 2012 – 2017. Prior to heading syndicate, Sumit was a senior member of our Equity Syndicate from 2006 – 2012.
In his 17 years as a senior member of Equity Capital Markets team, Sumit has worked on over 1500 equity transactions across IPOs, Follow-on’s, Private Capital, Equity-Linked and Block Trades. His experience ranges across multiple sectors including Healthcare, Industrials, Financials, Real Estate, Consumer/Retail, Technology, Energy & Power as well as Global transactions.
Before joining the Equity Capital Markets team, Sumit was member of the Merrill Lynch Institutional Equity Research Sales team in Chicago. Sumit started his career with Merrill Lynch as a member of the 2001 Global Markets Analyst class in New York.
Sumit graduated cum laude from The College of New Jersey in May 2001 with a degree in Finance, minor in Economics and Certificate in International Business. He was also a member of The College of NJ Lions Varsity Baseball Team and is now an active part of TCNJ’s alumni community. Additionally, Sumit serves as a mentor within Bank of America’s Veterans Associates Program and sit on the firm Diversity, Equity and Inclusion counsel at BofA.
