John Flannery is the President and CEO of GE Healthcare, an $18 billion business unit of General Electric that provides transformational medical technologies and solutions to the global healthcare industry. GE Healthcare supports customers in over 100 countries with a broad range of services and systems, from diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT through to molecular diagnostics and life-sciences. John is based at GE Healthcare’s global headquarters in the UK and was appointed to his current role in October 2014.
Prior to this, John was Senior Vice President for Corporate Business Development at GE, based in Fairfield, Connecticut, from April 2013. In this role, John directed GE’s agreement to acquire Alstom, the IPO of Synchrony Financial from GE Capital, the sale of GE Appliances and several other acquisitions and divestitures in GE’s Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Aviation segments.
John was President and CEO for GE India from October 2009 to April 2013, where he was responsible for the growth and development of all GE’s operations in the country. Prior to his leadership roles in GE’s industrial segments, John had an extensive career in GE Capital concluding with his role as President & CEO of GE Capital Asia Pacific.
During his time at GE Capital, John led the Bank Loan Group (BLG), where he managed one of the largest global institutional loan portfolios valued at nearly $10 billion and was President and CEO of GE Equity, the $6 billion private equity arm of GE Capital. Before that he held a number of leadership positions in the leveraged finance and private equity sectors, including two years as President and CEO, GE Capital Argentina and Chile.
John has been with GE for over 25 years and has extensive experience in building and leading large teams and growing businesses in global assignments.
He is a graduate of Fairfield University and holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
